Caldy Manor Residential Home Garden

Back in January this year, Mrs Callaway and Mrs McGregor had a meeting with the general manager of Caldy Manor Residential Home, Tricia Rowland. During the meeting it was discussed that Avalon School could come together with the residents and staff of the care home in a variety of ways. A number of events were discussed, including our Pre-School children visiting the home for an Easter experience, the residents coming to Avalon for afternoon tea and also a gardening project for Avalon to take part in for the Caldy Secret Gardens event which took place on Sunday 27th May 2018.

Mrs McGregor and Mrs Callaway subsequently visited the home to see the plot of garden that Avalon School would work on. Mrs McGregor recruited ex-members of staff, including Mrs Ham and Miss Roper, Mrs Gould (a parent helper) and a team of avid pupil gardeners to assist with the design and the planting that would follow. The theme "Hopes and Dreams" was decided upon with the idea of a rainbow effect through the plants along with added decorative items such as dream catchers, painted stones, fairy doors and butterfly wind chimes. Mrs Bartle and the pupils from every class worked extremely hard to produce all the decorative items.

The planting and decorating of the garden took place over two weeks. the first week was glorious with the sun shining and the garden started to shape. The second week was a different story! Torrential rain did not however dampen spirits and the end result was a fantastic reflection of the great teamwork and collaboration of everyone involved. Many parents and pupils visited the garden at the Secret Gardens event and were very impressed.
