Reception class have learnt all about Chinese New Year.  They started our new topic by learning about the traditions surrounding Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated. The children then had a go at writing all about the key events and traditions such as cleaning, decorating, sharing lovely food, wearing red and watching dragon dances! They then progressed on to learning about the Chinese Zodiac and the story of The Great Race. This led them to discover what animals represented the year we were born in and researching and writing about their character traits. They also made their family members a 'Happy Chinese New Year' card and enjoyed our own celebratory party with dancing and food tasting in class. At the end of the week, the children took home their very own lucky red envelope with a special treat inside!
