Fireworks!

Year 1 and 2 created wonderful firework representations during their Art lesson, we talked about the different colours and patterns they make. The children first created ‘houses’ silhouettes, then experimented with chalk pastels to create their picture.

"Keeping Healthy"

Year 1 and 2 have been thinking about ‘Keeping Healthy’ during their PSHCEE lessons. They discussed the importance of physical activity and the physical signs of being active; their heart beating faster, their bodies sweating! The children had a visit from one of our parents who delivered a sporting session, here the children enjoyed playing a variety of ball games as well as team work! A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon!

"The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch" - A Lighthouse Visit

Year 2 and 3 had a wonderful trip to Leasowe Lighthouse this week. Our Tour Guide told us all about Mr and Mrs Williams the last Lighthouse keepers and how the Lighthouse was built in 1763! The children had a fantastic time learning how the Lighthouse was made and how Mr and Mrs Williams kept the ships safe sailing into Liverpool. Our trip has enriched our learning about Lighthouses and brought ‘The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch’ story to life.

Bird Spotting

As part of our Science work about Animals, Year 1 and 2 went bird spotting around the school grounds. We used our ears to listen for birdsong. We were very quiet so as not to scare any birds away. We saw lots of Magpies, a Crow and a Pigeon.

" The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch"

Year 2 are reading the story, ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and have been using the iPads to search for interesting facts and information about Lighthouses. We found out that the first lighthouse was built in Egypt over 2000 years ago, and that the oldest working lighthouse is in Spain. We also discovered that lighthouses need a lightning rod which stops lightning from causing too much damage.

Counting Money

Year 2 have been doing lots of practical work, counting with money this week. We have been calculating with different amounts and finding the totals using pounds and pence. We also explored how much pocket money we might get for doing different jobs at home.

PE in the Sunshine

Year 1 and 2 thoroughly enjoyed their PE lesson outside in the lovely sunshine! They developed their balancing skills through activities using the stepping stones. The children also negotiated space and collaborated with others to travel over and around the stepping stones.

"Me and My World"

Year 1 and 2 have been exploring 'Me and My World'. For their Art lesson, they used mirrors to observe their faces and features and thought about their hair and eye colour. They then chose a variety of collage materials to create a portrait of themselves.
